About The Client
Special Olympics Canada supports athletes with intellectual disabilities across Canada and enriches their lives through a wide range of programs, events, and competitions. They serve over 49,600 athletes and have over 22,000 volunteers working to obtain their objectives. The benefits to participants, athletes and volunteers alike, are profound. Special Olympics creates change in the lives of the children, youth and adults registered in our programs, but also in the communities in which they live.
The Situation
In addition to its many community programs, Special Olympics Canada sends a national team to the World Games each year. Since the participants are spread across the country, they need a centralized tool to track the journeys of each athlete as they prepare for the competition.
The Solution
Training Central is an online web application used by athletes, volunteers and administrators to document and analyze training activities, preparation level and mental health in advance of the games. The tool needs to be easy to use for people at all levels, accessible from anywhere and on anything with internet access, and be able to store and analyze reports – in both official languages. The result is an engaging, high energy tool which is designed to motivate athletes through journaling, sport recognition, team communication, and progress milestones. Teams can communicate within their sport, host events, and compete in team challenges. In preparation for the World Games in Kazan Russia in 2022, more than 100 athletes have already submitted 8,500 reports and unlocked more than 2,000 achievements. We can’t wait to see how they perform in Kazan!
